If you are someone that struggles to get the proper amount of protein in your diet - perhaps you’re not a meat-eater, or you might lack the knowledge of how to prepare the best meals - then using breakfast time may be the best option for you! Here are some ingredients to add your favorite breakfasts that are naturally high in protein.
Sprinkle pumpkin seeds on your cereal
Pumpkins seeds are not only high in protein - roughly 7g of protein in 30g - but they’re also full of nutrients including zinc, magnesium, and iron. Plus they are versatile too, tasting great simply sprinkled over almost anything like cereals, yogurts, and fruits.
Mix Greek yogurt with berries
You can’t get a better tasting healthy breakfast then mixing the tangy creaminess of Greek yogurt into some juicy berries with a drizzle of honey. Greek yogurt usually has twice the amount of protein than regular yogurt, but watch out as most are high in fat, so it is best to get the brands with reduced fat content to get the best out of your breakfast energy.
Add tofu to your smoothies
If you’re a vegetarian or vegan, then tofu can often be the best substitute for the animal proteins found in meat. If you’re a fan of breakfast smoothies, then blending tofu into your favorite juices can be a great way of getting that extra kick of protein in the morning when you need it most. We recommend adding it to a smoothie bursting with sweet berries.
Scramble some egg whites
Eggs are one of the best sources of proteins, but if you tend to eat a lot of them, you risk overloading on their fats. If so, separating the egg whites can be a great way of packing in the protein but cutting out the fat if you are looking to reduce your fat intake. You can even buy pre-separated egg whites in a handy carton. Add the whites to seasoned avocado on toast with some feta cheese… Delicious!
Chop some turkey into your omelet
If you’re a big meat lover and find nothing more satisfying than crispy bacon in the morning time...then the much leaner and healthier meat of turkey may be a great alternative for you. Chopping up some succulent turkey breast into an omelet can be a tasty dish for some morning comfort. Add some mushrooms and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese for extra flavor!
Spread peanut butter on your toast
Peanut butter is packed with healthy proteins, and what’s more, it tastes good too! There’s plenty more you can do with peanut butter than spread it on toast. How about adding it to your smoothie for extra richness, or you could even spread it over some chopped fruit...apple & peanut butter is our personal favorite combo!
