Frozen Treats You Can Make For Your Pets In The Hot Weather

As the weather heats up, it becomes vitally important to keep your pets cool. The summer heat can be hard for furry animals, as most pets don’t sweat like the rest of us. Instead, they have to regulate their body heat in different ways - like panting! Frozen treats are a great way to keep your pets cool in the heat, while also giving them something yummy to eat. Here are some ideas that you can make at home.

Frozen Kong

Kongs are some of the most popular dog toys on the market today, and for a good reason too! If you have one, you’ll likely find your dog goes wild over it (especially if it’s filled with peanut butter). To make your Kong summer-friendly, it’s time to stick it in the freezer! Freeze up some peanut butter that you’ll use to close up the entrance, then add in the usual treats to the middle. Close the end up with the frozen peanut butter then stick the whole thing in the freezer. Once it’s all frozen, let your dog work for their frozen treats. They’ll love it!

Frozen Fish Popsicles

Only attempt this one if you don’t mind making your freezer smell a bit fishy! Using a tinned fish like tuna or sardines, simply blend up with some water and one or two of your cat’s favorite treats. Don’t forget to wash your blender out properly afterward… Now, pour this mixture into an ice cube tray and let freeze over. Your cats will love licking their way to the fishy center - although the smell might put you off this one!

Frozen Broth Cubes

This is an easier (and less smelly) way to give your pet a frozen treat. Pick a chicken or beef broth that has no added salt, and mix with the required amount of water. Once it has cooled, pour the broth into an ice cube tray and leave to set. You could pour them into popsicle molds as well if you prefer. Once they’re frozen, leave them out for your dog or cat to enjoy. You could even sneak some treats into the middle of the broth cubes, as an added bonus for your beloved pet.

Banana and Peanut Butter Treats

This one is so good that you’ll probably want to make a batch for yourself, too! All you need are some overripe bananas and a big spoonful of peanut butter. Blend it all together, then pop into silicone molds and into the freezer. After a couple of hours, the delicious banana and peanut butter treats will be frozen enough to give to your pet. Or just eat them all yourself - they really are that good!

There are so many different types of frozen treats you can make for your pets, depending on what their tastes are. If you don’t have any of the above ingredients, simply encase one of their toys in water and let freeze. At the very least, they’ll have a refreshing drink as they lick their way to the center.
